10/4/2011-TCTC Announces Results for 2011 Tidewater Patriot Day Charity Golf Tournament
The time right after the annual charity golf tournament is a combination of pride in this year’s accomplishments, reflection on the things that worked and those that didn’t and the start of the planning for the 2012. The slower pace of post tournament activities is the medicine the doctor ordered, combined with the kind words and handshakes from friends inside and outside of Tidewater; it begins to replenish the energy and enthusiasm for next year.
Nothing contributes to enthusiasm for a project like success and TCTC experienced success on every level with the 2011tournament. This year’s Tidewater Patriot Day Charity Golf Tournament raised $38,163 for charity, a new record which does not include the over $11,000 worth of donated housing, meals, entertainment and travel expenses for our invited military guests. Fund donated to charity over the last seven years is now over $158,000.
Money alone does not tell the whole story. The image of Tidewater as a vibrant, caring, charitable community has spread all over the country. With the help of the PGA of America, the Folds of Honor Foundation, Facebook, You Tube and other media, Tidewater stands out as a leader, a must see place when looking for property in this area. The turnout for opening ceremonies, the large number of tournament volunteers, and the way our residents embraced each and every one of the visiting military families was a real life Americana Norman Rockwell moment.
Ultimately the truest measure of success is the impact the funds raised will have on people’s lives. In the short term it may mean a family will have enough food to get through another week, a child will have a warm coat for the winter or a pair of shoes for school. Long term benefits could be proper dental care for a child who may otherwise go without, a family struggling with the stress of raising a child with special needs knowing they have a local support system in place to help.
Who can tell how a child left behind by the loss of a Dad serving in the military, can have their entire future changed because of the guarantee of a college scholarship and people showing that they care. These are just some of the measures of the success of the tournament.
Congratulations to the 2011 Tournament Champion Team of Keith Baker, Richard O’Brien, Peter Naylor and Jim Rudge. They are the first team to have their names on the Flight Trophy located year round in the Tidewater Clubhouse.
Winners of the 2011 Big Money Raffle were Richard Cole ($5,000), Larry Bond ($1,250), and Maggie Rotelli ($750). 50/50 winners were Richard Forslund ($500) and Keith Lambert ($267).
10/4/2011-Three of the Wounded Warriors who played in the 2011 Tidewater Patriot Day Charity Golf Tournament have been selected to play in the Warrior Open in Dallas Texas, on October 9-11, hosted by George W. Bush. Good luck to Ramon Pidilla, Brian Donarski, and Denis Oliverio, three of America's Heroes. To see more on this event go to www.warrioropen.com
